The Vittel Carnival

Vittel’s carnival parade is one of the most famous in the department, delighting the huge numbers of visitors who come to see it.
After several months of preparation, it is always a resounding success.

I’ve heard so many great things about the Vittel Carnival that I can’t wait for it! The forecast is for good weather this year, and despite the seasonal temperatures, we’re ready – let’s go!

We arrive in Vittel and park at the edge of the Bonne Source car park, which is free (like all car parks in the town). We then head towards the town centre, a two-minute walk away. The parade consists of around twenty groups and ten floats, stretching for about 1 km. We’d been told it was one of the biggest in the Vosges, so naturally we’re really looking forward to it!

The atmosphere is buzzing, with onlookers gathering at the sides of the streets to get the best view of the parade.

This year, it’s even more special, as the carnival is celebrating its 30th anniversary! More than 800 volunteers, local organisations, music groups, brass bands and street performers have been working hard for a long time to put on the best possible show for the public to enjoy with their eyes and ears.

Carnival

Carnival is a type of festival that is relatively widespread in Europe and America. It generally involves a period during which the town’s residents go out in fancy dress (or even wearing masks or make-up) and get together to sing, dance, play music in the streets, throw confetti and streamers, and take part in a procession, perhaps as part of a parade.

In Vittel, there are floats as far as the eye can see, bands, dancers… as well as confetti, balloons and bubbles – it’s a unique atmosphere that you can experience at the heart of this carnival.
